Because unfettered free-trade is, metaphorically-speaking, a form of cannibalism of a population’s life’s energy: The Standing Committee on International Trade should report to the House of Commons

  • Urging the Government of Canada to stop further implementation of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) with the United States and Mexico until there is
  1. a democratic mandate from the people of Canada
  2. Parliamentary oversight
  3. consideration of its profound consequences on Canadians’ sovereignty and
  4. Canada’s sovereign ability to adopt autonomous and sustainable economic, social, and environmental policies

The Government of Canada must conduct a transparent and accountable public debate and independent investigation into the SPP process, involving:

    • Public consultations with civil society and a
    • Full legislative review, including

- the work, recommendations, and reports of all SPP groups

- full debate

- vote in Parliament
